The mission of Carolina Care Plan® Inc. Is to deliver quality,
accessible, affordable, user-friendly health care choices in
South Carolina. Carolina Care Plan is one of the largest
health maintenance organizations (HMOs) in South Carolina. Carolina
Care Plan Inc., formerly known as Physicians Health PlanSM Inc., was founded in 1984 as
Physicians Health Plan of South Carolina, Inc. The majority of members of the board of
directors are physicians.
The company's products feature wellness benefits such as well baby visits, all medically
appropriate immunizations, annual physicals, annual visual exams, and preventive
screening mammograms.
Members can seek services for medical care from any participating provider through our
direct-access HMO product, Carolina Access®. Our point-of-service (POS) products, Carolina
Added Access® and Carolina Connect®, add coverage for non-network providers. The
Carolina Connect product also adds supplemental providers from Physicians Care Network,
a subsidiary of the South Carolina Medical Association. Carolina HSASM high deductible
health plans are available for groups to pair with tax-deductible health savings accounts.
Carolina Care Plan also has health plans for individuals called Carolina Direct®. These
plans are available for kids as well as adults and their dependents.
Carolina Care Plan provides group health coverage for several statewide associations,
including several chambers of commerce, the South Carolina Bar, South Carolina
Association of CPAs, South Carolina Homebuilders Association and the Low country
Manufacturers Council. And Carolina Care Plan was approved to be offered to South Carolina
Federal Employees beginning January 1, 2005.
